Full course description

This course will introduce you to the logistical elements of CALM and its guiding principles. Learning to use CALM effectively takes time and this is just an introduction. See Module 3 (The Scope & Sequence), Module 5 (Assessment), and Module 6 (Using CALM) in particular to learn more about the essential components of lesson planning. You are strongly encouraged to attend other SABES Math professional development events after completing or while doing this course as many of them incorporate CALM activities.

Course Length: 4 hours

Upon completion of this professional development course, you will be able to:

  • Explain to students how CALM is different from a traditional curriculum
  • Articulate how CALM builds concepts developmentally over time
  • Describe how CALM implements the three components of rigor
  • Visualize fractions with manipulatives
  • Identify the structure of an effective unit and lesson plan, and the guiding principles of CALM
  • Locate and access CALM documents
